(first published by Memory Press Australia)

A poignant and often humorous look at how their relationship changed when the author’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

This book was first published in 2002 and reader demand has resulted in a recent third reprint.

Early one morning, I had a phone call from my mother's neighbour.

"We have your mother here - she says someone is going to kill her."

Overnight, I lost the mother I knew and a stranger had taken her place.

Dealing with her journey into dementia became more and more difficult for me - it was like a death but I was unable to mourn.

While I could not change the situation, however, I could alter the way I viewed it. By reversing our roles, I could still maintain the family link, but not go through the futile exercise of looking for the mother I lost.
